The installation dimensions and tolerances of the iglide® 300 plain bearing depend on the material and the wall thickness of the product. For every material, moisture absorption and thermal expansion must be taken into account. The iglide® 300 plain bearing absorbs little moisture and can be designed with minimal tolerances. As for wall thickness, the rule is: the thicker the bearing, the larger the tolerance must be.

Maximum permissible static surface pressure for the iglide 300 plain bearing
The application temperature strongly affects the properties of the plain bearing. The maximum short-term temperature is 428°F, which allows the iglide® G300 plain bearing to be used in heat treatment applications where the bearing carries no additional load. As the temperature rises, the strength of the iglide® G300 plain bearing falls. The chart shows this relationship. However, at the maximum long-term temperature of 266°F, the permissible surface pressure is still above 5,800 psi. The ambient temperature in the application also affects bearing wear. As the temperature rises, wear increases, and this effect becomes noticeable from 248°F.

Use in rotary applications with different shaft materials for the iglide 300 plain bearing
Friction and wear also depend to a large extent on the shaft material. A shaft that is too smooth increases both the coefficient of friction and bearing wear. For iglide® G300, a surface with a mean roughness of Ra = 0.8 µm is recommended. The diagram shows test results for different shaft materials with the iglide® G300 plain bearing. It is important to note that as pressure increases, the recommended shaft hardness increases. "Soft" shafts tend to wear more easily and therefore affect the clearance of the overall system. If the pressure exceeds 290 psi, it is important to recognise that the wear rate falls markedly with a harder shaft material.
