What is a control cable?
Control cable - also known as control signal cable, is a multicore cable used in automation and instrumentation applications. Control cables can measure and regulate the transmission of automated processes. Flexibility is a concern when choosing control cables. Cables that will be flexed continuously during the automation process may require different structures.
Control cable structure
Conductor core:
Conductor core materials often have many pairs and cores, can use copper or aluminum according to international standard IEC 60228

chainflex® control cables meet the most diverse mechanical requirements with different suitability. Depending on the type of control cable, they are kink-resistant, suitable for tight radii or very low temperatures, UV-resistant, flame-resistant and halogen-free. Tested in the igus® laboratory with millions of cycles in the e-chain®, they provide guaranteed safety against failures.
- Use igus control cables whenever high loads due to movement, twisting or harsh environmental conditions are required.
- Bending radius up to 4xd
- Coating material: PVC, iguPUR, PUR or TPE
- Control cables for motion applications
Control cable types:
From the low price segment with PVC outer sheath to high-end TPE cables
- Control cable CF880, 12.5xd bending radius and PVC outer sheath: low price version
- CF5 control cable, smaller 6.8xd bending radius with PVC outer sheath and oil resistance: greater technical advantage leads to slightly higher price per meter
- Control cable CF98, oil/organic oil resistant cable, with TPE outer sheath and bending radius of only 4xd: higher price because of greater technical advantages
Characteristics of igus control cable
IGUS®, the world leader in Energy Chain® cable management systems, has developed a line of complementary cables specifically designed to withstand the rigors of high-speed equipment.
- The Chainflex® CF10 Shielded Control Cable series provides high quality cabling solutions for all types of equipment and applications requiring the highest protection and reliability.
- Weather- and environmental-resistant TPE construction is suitable for use in both indoor and outdoor applications, while remaining highly flexible in cold environments and maintaining internal integrity when exposed to temperatures ranging from -31°F to 212°F (-35°C to 100°NS)
- The highly flexible conductors comply with EN 60228 and meet the performance requirements for maximum mechanical loads
- The intermediate coating is made from a pressure-extruded TPE composite, which maintains flexibility while keeping the stranded conductors in short pitches for extremely low twisting.
- Special pressure-resistant TPE outer coating is anti-abrasion, anti-oil, anti-bio-oil and anti-coolant
- Silicon free complies with PV 3.10.7 - 1992 status Halogen free PVC free CE rating RoHS compliant
